Acts 11:19:30

17th May

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him." 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

 Consider & Pray

What am I?
  • We have thought about the primary importance of what we say and do concerning what we are called, What is it about the early church you think you could better emulate?  Spend time in prayer asking the Holy Spirit to help you grow in your desire to be more like Christ.
  • What would best describe who we are in our culture? How do you think you would frame an answer to the question:
    • "Are you religious?"
    • "Are you a Christian?"
  • How do we explain to those who would describe themselves as "Christians" what one is?
  • What the world calls us, falls into complete insignificance when we consider that the mighty creator God calls us "His". Spend some time in prayer and worship for his great love to us.

Song to Start  -  Jesus Number 1

This week's song is "Jesus Number 1" by Colin Buchanan. Nick and Siobhan will send around an actions video again via the church families WhatsApp group. We'd love to know how you are getting on with the actions. We have sung this one before, have your been practising?

Activity 1 -   Make a "Jesus is number 1" pointing finger

This week we are talking about Jesus being our number 1 and being at the centre of our lives as Christians. Can you make a pointing finger and write the words Jesus is Number 1 on it? Then can you use your new "foam finger" to help with the actions in this week's song?

Here's an example of what we mean by a "foam finger"

Activity 2   - Christians paper people chain

In today's passage Jesus' followers are called Christians for the first time. Can you make a paper people chain of Jesus' followers? If you make a people chain of ten people you can write one letter of the word christians on each people. Then you can talk together as a family about what makes people a christian? The people in today's passage are called Christians because they are following Christ and living their lives with Jesus as the centre. How can we do this too?

If you haven't made a paper people chain before here are some instructions
